Annotation: The paper deals with the analysis of the soil failure by the ripper’s cutting element. The design model of a ripper’s cutting element and the soil interaction considered as the system consisting of a reduced mass and an elastic link with reduced rigidity as well as the conventional soil strength has been developed and analyzed in the paper. The authors have studied the problems of the rate identification at the stage of cutting element penetration into the soil enabling to determine the impact of the operating element rigidity both on soil strength and cutting rate vibrations. The cutting force at the initial period of interaction between an operating mechanism and the soil, and motion velocity of a separation moment of the next cutting element have been also determined; after which the second completely analyzed stage of motion has started. The further consideration of the formulated problem has enabled to make some suggestions of operational equipment rigidity determined by hydraulic cylinder stiffness which, in turn, has made possible to study the impact of a hydraulic system on interaction of operational equipment and the soil.

Keywords: cutting tool, shearing strength, stiffness, rigidity, strength, elastic link strain, shearing elements.
